Job Description:

The Database Administrator & Developer is responsible for the design, development, administration, and optimization of the university’s databases and MIS platforms. This role ensures the integrity, performance, and security of data systems and supports academic and administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities

Database Design & Development

• Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable, and normalized databases.

• Develop stored procedures, triggers, and backend logic using SQL, PHP, or Python.

• Create relational databases using MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.

System Optimization & Maintenance

• Monitor database performance and apply tuning techniques.

• Manage storage, indexing, partitioning, and normalization.

• Automate backup and disaster recovery processes.

Data Integration & API Development

• Develop and support ETL processes and data pipelines.

• Integrate third-party APIs and services with university systems.

Reporting & Business Intelligence

• Write SQL queries and create custom reports, dashboards, and analytics.

• Support data-driven decision-making through reporting tools and visualization.

Security & Compliance

• Implement robust security measures to protect sensitive information.

• Ensure compliance with university policies and legal standards.

Technical & User Support

• Collaborate with software developers and provide backend support.

• Train and support university staff on data systems.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or IT (Master’s preferred).

• 5+ years of experience in database development or administration.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server.

• Strong SQL programming and scripting in PHP/Python.

• Experience with tools like phpMyAdmin, pgAdmin, SSMS.

• Familiarity with OLAP/OLTP, data warehousing, and database modeling.

Soft Skills

• Problem-solving mindset with analytical thinking.

• Strong communication and documentation skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
