The Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) degree provides a general education in many aspects of Computer Science and Software Development. Computers have revolutionized the way we live today. Most facets of our lives depend, to a greater or lesser degree, on computers. From telephone systems to security systems, accounting to marketing, baby monitors to auto-pilot options, every industry, every household and every office is looking to ‘up grade’ itself by means of new technology and new software. This has invariably given rise to a high demand for software developers around the globe. The BCS degree prepares graduates to become a part of this growing industry, through rigorous and intensive practical programming courses, backed by sound concept models.

 

Objectives and Goals

 

The Bachelor of Computer Science degree provides a solid foundation in computer science – the study of the algorithmic processes that describe and transform information – focusing on the development of high-level programming skills that can be applied across the widest range of applications. Students will study aspects of the theory, analysis, design, efficiency, programming and applications required for writing computer software to solve problems. A core of programming, problem solving, mathematics, statistics, systems and systems development is supplemented by a wide choice of specialist subjects.

 

Program Objectives

• Adequate in designing and writing programs for computer applications

• Adequate in writing computer software to solve problems.

• Acquiring adequate knowledge in software development, software engineering, and software architecture

• Acquiring adequate knowledge in databases design and management

• Student will acquire adequate knowledge in Mathematics and Statistics

• Adequate knowledge in computer systems

• Students will function effectively as a team member.

• Encompass all the learning outcomes of computer science into a graduation project of one year duration where the students form teams to develop computer applications

• Student will demonstrate effective communication skills

• Students will develop an awareness of the local UAE culture

• To have the students exposed to important topics and technologies in computer science such as database, languages, artificial intelligence, computer security, computer graphics, human computer interface, real-time software and software engineering, web design, networking and network security, and fundamentals of e-business

• Students will demonstrate an appreciation for learning as a life long process
